The question fails and the budget is 2 million dollars closer to being balanced. The whole community, as opposed to a handful at Town Meeting, had their say and said no to an unbalanced budget.
We will now wait and see what they do next. Will Laurie Hunt and the School Committee simply do the same thing all over again and add it back at the next Town Meeting? Will they be that arrogant and self serving? Certainly possible. There is still 800K that needs to be found or cut in order to balance the budget, so there will certainly be another Town Meeting coming up. We will continue to follow it through.

Increasing the tax burden on Wakefield taxpayers should always be the last resort.
